«In the dance you can be whatever and whoever you want — and even more.»Kristy Nataraja
[ the style ]
Symbol Dance was born where two worlds touch: the temple dance vocabulary of ancient India — and the raw precision of street dance. Temple dancers never performed to show skill. They danced to offer movement to something greater. Symbol Dance returns that intention to the modern body.
dance style · performance art · transpersonal practice
52 hastas and 32 pada bhedas of Indian classical dance, straight from the Natyashastra, and the 38 temple postures of Odissi — a real language your body learns to speak, not imitate.
70% popping, 30% hip-hop: animation, waving, strobing, liquid, isolation — plus Kristy's own inventions: micromovement, tracing & pin, separation.
Attention, presence, «here and now». Gesture as a symbol in Jung's sense — a container of meaning deeper than words. The moment technique dissolves, the dance starts moving you.
[ the author ]
More than 30 years in dance. Berlin-based performance artist and embodied researcher. Kristy studied Odissi in India at the Srjan School under the legendary Sujata Mohapatra — and spent three decades distilling temple traditions and street culture into a style you can actually learn.
For Kristy, movement is a prayer — and that is exactly what makes her dance unlike anything else you have seen. On stage she works with mask, body art and gesture as «activation codes» — and out of that research she built techniques of her own that exist nowhere else.

«This course became one of the most important events in my life and one of the main steps in my development. I'm not good with beautiful words — I'm simply happy.»
SDP student · 2nd cohort
«Already after the first exercises the result was visible. Even my gaze became more alive and aware. It's amazing to play with sensations inside, watch the body respond, and find new forms.»
SDP student
«This experience is vast and deep — I'm sure I don't yet grasp everything it has opened inside me. Most importantly, it brings me closer to myself.»

A movement style created by Kristy Nataraja: ancient ritual and temple dances — Odissi, Khmer and Balinese traditions — joined with modern street dance technique. Not a set of steps, but a language of symbols your body learns to speak.
After Jung: a symbol is more than a sign — it carries an unconscious layer of meaning that cannot be fully put into words. In this practice gesture and posture work exactly like that: each hasta or temple posture is a container of knowledge your body opens from inside. The unconscious speaks in symbols — here, it dances them.
No. The courses build technique from the ground up, and every exercise scales to your level. Experienced dancers use the same material to deepen improvisation and stage presence.
Recorded video lessons, available 24/7 for one year from purchase. The flagship course holds 20 technique lessons of 30–60 minutes, each one ending with Kristy's own improvisation on the material.
Both — and that is the point. You train real technique: isolation, plasticity, footwork. And you work with attention and archetypes the way temple dancers did: movement as an offering, not a display of skill.
